"I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE"

An address given by the Christ messenger Zodiac through the deep trance mediumship of Miss Winifred Moyes,
at the Zodiac Circle Sunday, June 8th, in the twentieth century.

(Note: This message was edited for a more general readership)

..."It is sometimes necessary to be reminded that the path you have chosen to follow leads into Light Eternal; shutting out darkness beyond the horizon altogether. Light, light everywhere. To little children God is only able to demonstrate Himself in this way until they grow more used to the conditions of the Spirit.

"I entreat you to concentrate more and more on bringing into your being Light. Light does not only express that which is of brightness, for as you know full well, when light comes, that which is shut in, cramped, narrowed by the darkness, assumes its rightful proportions - space unlimited all around. Never forget this. Many overlook it, concentrating entirely on the physical meaning of the word 'light'. It is the antithesis of darkness; and because it is, in it is included all that vast, wide stretching landscape which is applicable in a physical and mental, as well as in a spiritual sense.

"We have no dealings with the narrow, that which has hedges and barriers beyond which we are forbidden to go. We are free of such restrictions, free in a sense impossible for you to understand, free in that unlimited expanse of God's Love - which is never explored because it is inexplicable, so vast, so eternal.

"Having prepared your minds a little, having shut out those teasing irritations of physical life, scattering the four winds and ushering in - in their place - peace and stillness and the quietness which is of God, I lead you into the subject for discussion - which is always simple but by its very simplicity revealing profound truths - truths which must be thought and pondered over, truths which never can be exhausted from a mental point of view.

"The Christ said: 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life'. Many have tried to interpret this saying, tried with love in their hearts and adoration for the Speaker, and have succeeded better than they know. Words are of the physical only. The wish to interpret, the wish to serve their Father God, the wish to bring the Christ a little nearer to those who are on the outskirts of comprehension - these are the things that remain - and God, looking into the heart and mind of the one who would teach, sends down power which passes through him to others, and simple words very often have planted the seed of Truth in the mind of another which shall bear fruit in the days to come, when the limitations of the body are laid aside.

"It has often been said that those who preach the Christ Crucified, veil Him from their listeners, rather than reveal Him. Again, it has been said, that bread is asked for and a stone is given in its place.

"Great responsibility lies on those who have appointed themselves teachers and yet have failed to give out a semblance of the truth they are there to teach. Yet, there is a vast distinction between these and those who wish to serve, who would if they could, portray the Christ, who by their lives are demonstrating Him in a way that nothing else could. But the indifferent and the careless, who are not conscious of the obligation that rests upon them - much sorrow awaits them when the illumination comes.

"For each one that went hungry because they did not feed the lambs of the Lord, they will in turn themselves hunger after righteousness. Then only by effort, consecration, and by service - treble the service required from them upon the earth - will they be able to satisfy, in any measure, the demands of the spirit within.

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life - thus saith our Lord. I am the Way: the way of sacrifice by way of service, of tenderness, of patience, and of love. That is the Way of the Christ. Search how you may; there is no other path you can find that He ever put one foot upon.

"I am the Way - the Great Example, the only way to reach holiness and that which is of the Spirit. Do not cast this thought aside. In your in the Sacred Record (Note: the Bible), the path you are to follow is clearly laid down. Watchfulness over self, resistance of temptation, patience under suffering - these struggled for, even if not attained - these are the stepping stones to joy beyond all description.

"You must not confuse this in your minds. The Christ is the Example, and you are His brothers and sisters. You are not expected to be able to do the same. But the God within you expects and demands that you should try, that you should not turn from the rough, but that you should be willing to take the upward path in faith and in confidence, certain of protection, of security, and of your Eternal Home at the last.

"I am the Way, the Truth: the Truth which God - in the Christ - came to demonstrate to an incredulous world. Truth has always had this reception. It is no use fencing the fact or trying to argue against it. In a world of doubt, amongst those who prefer darkness rather than the light, Truth has always been an outcast.

"Yet I would not sadden you, for looking around, you see emerging from the waves of scepticism, from the treacherous seas of self - the Truth, slowly but surely, rising to the surface, and finally, holding its own midst tempest and fire and attack.

"Throughout His life, the Saviour fought for the Truth as no one has been called upon to do - since or before. He came, not merely to teach, but said, 'I am the Truth' - these words representing that He is the Lord of All. And it does not need much imagination to realise the reception that such a statement met with, and the inevitable result.

"You are asked to follow on, but the Christ led the way. The Christ, in man's form, hampered by all those restrictions of the physical which some of you chafe against, bound and fettered by the rules of life on earth - yet it was He who had to say to a scoffing world: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

"You find it difficult to take in. There are some forms of courage that are altogether beyond our feeble comprehension; but with that simple statement we know that the Christ faced his enemies with most astounding assertion. Today the thinking part of humanity looks up and recognises as God - Jesus the Christ, the Man - despised, rejected, betrayed, and crucified, is our Lord Whom we delight to worship, and Whom we love far better than we understand.

"You should be heartened by this memory. If you follow the Records, you will see that men of simple lives, habits, and minds, also found courage to insist that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Picture such a position today. If One came into your midst, pure, holy, loving, and understanding - with all those wonderful qualities that claim your admiration and affection - think of your position, if such a test of love should come to you, if you had to go out and say to the world: 'This Man is God!'

"The physical mind is unable to grasp this stupendous crisis in every sense; when courage, loyalty, love, everything, hung in the balance, the Christ stood alone - alone on His day of trial: Yet, from the depths of His Being was able to say: 'Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.'

"Visualise the position of this Man of the people, without a single tool from the physical point of view; how He went forth to teach and to preach the Truth, and when the opportunity came, announced to all: 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life'.

"Thinking of Him as God, no miracle is here, but remember, that in taking on the body of man, that Godhead was laid aside completely. It was not a case of calling upon His Godhead in time of need, and then relinquishing it when things were easier. It has been stated quite clearly in the Bible, He was bereft of everything except the God within. This too is your own possession.

"Instead of being favoured by circumstances, by environment, and all the other gifts which seem to come to some as a matter of course - not one of these was taken up by our Lord - but the disadvantages, all those things that make life hard, this was His equipment for His sojourn upon earth. Yet He won through in a way impossible for any of us to understand, won through because the Soul within had that free play that we find so hard to give it.

"I am the Life. It is clear for all to read, that those who love God shall not see death. I am the Life. There is not one of the countless millions who have passed out of the physical body, who, if they tried in some measure to love God - and to follow the way laid down by Him - who has seen death; and there is not one in the future that death shall ever touch. Try and grasp this simple fact.

"Those who are passing over at this very minute know not death, because long before the spirit leaves the tabernacle of the flesh, they are caught up into the only Life that matters. You must recollect that the Christ spoke to those who would listen; He was not speaking of the surface of things, or those that were to be interpreted by the limited physical mind of man. He was speaking of things as they are, and of things that will be for Eternity.

"Open your hearts and minds, and take in this great truth which is so simple, so straightforward, and so natural. Those who seek God never see death. There have been some who have come back to demonstrate this fact, and in everyday language have chronicled their experiences on gaining freedom from the body, and you will remember that 'death' would be the last word which could express what happened.

"There is much to think about in regard to this matter, and it is important that when looking through the sayings of the Christ, not to put aside this one or that as impossible to understand. They are all understandable when the mind of the spirit is brought into action. The Christ is speaking of things as they were, are, and will be. Those who love God shall not see death.

"The Way, the Truth and the Life is laid out for you. Never believe that you have come to the end of their meaning because, study them as you may, you will never be able to get beyond the outer fringe. It is not possible during the earth stages - and even within the Spirit Realm, many are only on the outskirts of understanding all that lies in that simple, yet profound, and perfectly direct statement - I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
